Will CRT monitors remain in future and why?
Today, CRT monitors are considered outdated because of their weight and the space occupied by them. The image quality of the traditional CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors is still not good when compared to its counterpart, the LCD monitor. Also, the size of CRT monitor can not be increased, but you can get a LCD monitor in larger as well as smaller sizes.
Up till the nineteenth century, CRT monitors were considered the standard and the norm. But, after the introduction of LCD monitors, everyone started buying this new technology. So, big giants like Sony started to reduce its CRT production. However, all these disadvantages of CRT monitors do not mean that they are being phased out from the market. There are also many advantages of CRT monitors like the low price, heat withstanding capacity and more shelf life.
CRT will stay for the time being due to its cheap pricing and long shelf life. If you want to upgrade to LCD or plasma, you have to spend a lot. If you want to buy your computer within a budget, then you need to purchase CRT. CRT monitors costs much less than the other forms of modern technology such as plasma or LCD. They can tolerate lots of heat whereas you can not expect endurance of heat in a LCD monitor.
The clarity and quality of color is somewhat better on CRT monitors when you compare them to a LCD monitor. But the newly introduced LCD monitors include technology that can compete with the finest of CRT monitors. If you place both the monitors' side-by-side, it is difficult to spot the class difference.
As LCD monitors include more components and enhanced performance than CRT monitors, LCD monitors are roughly two times as bright as CRT monitors. LCD monitors have flat panel and therefore are easy to move and can be placed in petite spaces. Another advantage of LCD monitors is they are as thin as one inch. That's why LCD monitors can be seen on very small devices like pocket PDAs. On the other hand CRT monitors are heavy and ugly, and they weigh 10 to 20 kilos more than the LCD monitors.
Conversely, if you look at the old LCD monitors, their performance was not good in dimmed situations. CRT monitor's contrast settings portray light conditions as they should be. However, the LCD monitors nowadays are better at coloring tones than the older ones.
There are many more bits and pieces you can employ for comparison purposes like the screen burn, power consumption, dead pixels, response time, screen flickering, rack mounting, video sources and magnetic interference. The type of monitor that you choose entirely depends on your requirements. LCD is a good choice if somebody deals with text all the time because the diverse pixels that you discover on a LCD will have properly defined edges. This gives clear and sharp letters on the screen. On the other hand, a graphics professional may prefer a CRT monitor since they are said to illustrate more realistic colors. So, CRT monitors will remain in future for their low pricing and high-quality performance.

Re: Will CRT monitors remain in future and why?
The major qualities of a CRT monitor are its image representation. It is only today that we are getting LCDs with low response times and no ghosting of videos. But even with response times as low as 2 ms it is the CRTs which are preferred by gamers over lcds as in a professional game every milisecond counts. If you can't see whats coming how can you repel it. CRTs might remain for some more years until LCDs become dirt cheap and available to everyone. Once the LCDs get a response time of the CRTs the CRTs won't be used anymore.
