System Restore

System Restore

hi, i am using windows XP sp2. i wanted to ask, what exactly does system restore do? i have set it to occupy 700MB space, is it enough? does it save all the files or what?

Re: System Restore

The WIndow XP SP2's system restore usually act as the Undo command for Windows. This means, when your computer is on, System Restore will takes the regular snapshots of your window configuration, settings and program files.

The snapshots will be stored on your harddisk, this for the emergency back up purpose, which you can easily revert the snapshots back to the point.

Hope this help you out ;)

Re: System Restore

Although like wilhb81 said, Restore Points act like an emergency backup for Windows, there is a downside to having Restore Points active on your system.

Most virii nowadays hide themselves in the System Restore folders.

If you don't need System Restore, it is better to disable it.

This can be achieved by doing the following :

1) Right click MY COMPUTER, select PROPERTIES.
2) Click on SYSTEM RESTORE tab.
3) Check "Turn Off System Restore"
4) Click APPLY and OK.

This is sometimes better for more advanced users, but is not recommended for new users.
