Question: How to email from a bash script on Linux ?

Hi guys,

My boss has asked me to put together a simple bash shell script which does a few simple process monitoring tasks. I’ve done it all and it works great, all I need to do now is email some of the results to him.

How do i email from a shell script ? in my case using the bash shell ?

Question: echo statements in my bash script ignores \n \r \t ?

Hi guys,

I’m scratching my head over this but I’m writing a bash script and echo’ing out statements with some basic formatting using n (new line) and a t (tab).

Unfortunately my statments seem to be ignoring the backslash and printing it out rather than reading it as an escape character ?

Any ideas… ? As an example

echo "hello world \n";
echo "good by world \n";

#
# both of these literally print out the below
# no line breaks are interpreted ...
# "hello world \ngood bye world \n"

Question: Windows 7 Partition Problems

Now, I know Windows 7 has a hard time reading Vista partitions (which can easily be fixed by manually assigning a drive letter to that partition) but I have a different problem.

I have a 1TB External drive, with all my backups, software etc on it. The partition was created in Vista, a normal NTFS partition. It works well under XP as well.

But Windows 7….*sigh*…it detects the drive, assigns a drive letter as well, but when I try to browse the drive, it says that it is not formatted, and needs to be formatted. Take the drive out, plug it into a Vista or XP system, and it works no problem.

Any suggestions, ideas?

Question: Where Can I find Linux Video Card Drivers?

I own a ATI Mobility 9600 video card. I have looked on their website, and thought that they didn’t make Linux drivers, but than someone on a online forums said they had theirs running with Linux drivers.I have tried installing Fedora, but that didn’t work. I got Ubuntu running actually, but was just having a hard time getting the video card drivers so I can play windows games using Cedega. I was thinking about selling the laptop soon so I can buy a desktop with a Nvidia card in it. :D I think I might still do that if I am going to have to build a .deb package from scratch in order to install the drivers. Can someone please tell me where I might find a .deb package for the Radeon drivers? Maybe it is in Synaptic?TJ has a link to the support page with Linux drivers, but I am wondering if that will work for the Mobility chipset?

Question: Difference between Windows xp 32 bit and 4 bit

Now a days we have 32 bit and 64 bit opeating system availble with Windows xp . 64 bit is called x-64. The only difference i found is that 64 bit OS uses memory better than 32 bit. The page file size is almost 4 GB. That mean i can run applications that require huge memory without upgrading RAM.
