Question: Visual C++. Is it worth it ?

I recently decided to develop my major project in Visual C++..i hadn’t any exposure of it but i thought it would probably have the same features as say VB or netbeans.But i was astounded to see how little functionality it had to offer in terms of GUI..Is there any version out there thats worth using ?
