Question: I cannot use system restore

I have Windows XP installed on my computer and I cannot use system restore on ANY point selectable to restore. The computer restarts and says "System restore cannot be performed on selected point, please try another restore point" and it does this for EVERY restore point. How do I fix this?

It is possible that your Restore Points are corrupt, due to virus activity or the like.

If in future you need to use Restore Points, I would suggest that you first Disable System Restore (to clear all previous bad points) and then make sure that your computer is virus free.

Also make sure that you allocate enough disk space for System Restore, because it sounds like you have a lot of Restore Points.

After that is done, you can re-enable System Restore, to create new, uncorrupt restore points.

If all else fails, try to do a Windows Refresh (which leaves all your personal data intact, but refreshes the core files of windows), just make sure that you have your drivers handy.

If you posted because right now you have a problem, try to do a Refresh in any case, because obviously your Restore Points are useless at this moment.
