Photo printers - how do they differ from regular printers

Regular printers are used for printing documents that contain text contents. These document printers cannot be used for printing photos. When they print images the printed image will be blocky and pixilated. These printers cannot print photos at high qualities. To overcome this problem and to add more features to the regular printers, photo printers are evolved. These photo printers will prints photos with high quality. When glossy paper is used to print the photos, then the printed photos will resemble the lab printed ones.

Photo printers and the regular printers differ in the dpi that is used for printing. DPI refers to dots per inch and it determines the quality of the printed photo. Regular printers will have a maximum of 600 x 600 dpi while a photo printer has 4800 x 1200 dpi to print fine finished photos.

A photo printer will have six or more ink wells to print high quality images. These ink wells contain photo printing inks for high quality photos and ordinary ink cartridges for printing ordinary documents. When you want to print documents with a photo printer you can use simple inks but for printing photos the printer will use special inks. With a regular printer you will not have special inks to print the photos accurately.

Borderless painting is another great advantage with photo printers. The ink is sprayed till the edges of the photo paper so that the borders are eliminated to resemble the lab printed photos. If you use a high quality photo printer you cannot differentiate between a printed photo and lab processed photo.

When you print photos with regular printer you will not get accurate photo and also the ordinary ink will not stay long. But with photo printers, the special inks can last for more than 100 years and are far more superior to lab prints.

You can print photos in any sizes you want. Photosmart printers enable you to print photos that with 13" x 24" size. The size depends on the quality and the brand of the printer. Certain photo printers have LCD displays to enable you to select photo printing options with ease. You need not be a professional skilled photographer to print high quality photos if you have a good photo printer.

Regular printers use computers fro print command and you cannot print the documents with a computer. Modern photo printers don't need computer at all. You can connect them directly to your digital camera or mobile phone and print the photos stored in them. You need not touch the computer to give the print command.

Photo editing options are also available with photo printers so that you can easily remove red spots in the photo before printing them. Many other photo editing can also be done using the photo printer. Certain photo printers allow you to print on both sides of the paper which is not available in regular printers. In general you can print anything and everything you want if you have a photo printer.
