Microsoft windows vista is the latest operating system that was released by the Microsoft Company. This operating system was designed for use in PC, desktop computer, laptop computers and tablet PCs. The Microsoft operating system series were criticized for the lack of security. Those systems that operated in Microsoft windows, irrespective of the version are exposed to spyware, malware and viruses. The security of the computer was a major threat and the system was found to crash often. The user has to reinstall all the components when a system crash occurs.
To add on to the existing windows operating systems and to enhance the security new features were added to windows vista while certain features were removed for convenience. The Microsoft Company concentrated more on the success of windows vista and released the beta version. Several features were studied and improvised before the original product was actually released.
Windows vista used a new hardware based graphical system called windows aero. The graphical interface was very pleasing for the user. Live thumbnails, live icons and animations have attracted those users who love graphical interfaces. The new interface looked very trendy and easy to use.
The windows shell was changed from the previous versions. The explorer task pane was removed and a toolbar was added instead. The start menu was also changed and the word was changed to blue windows pearl. The entire look and feel changed a lot so that the interface has a modern look. Instant search and sidebar was also included for the convenience of the user.
The vista operating system incorporated the latest internet explorer 7 and the media player 11. These new additions had more security features and any malicious software is restricted from attacking the system. The media player included a new pleasing user interface and provided to share music libraries over the network.
Windows vista has backup and restore center that schedules periodic backup of files in the system. The backups are incremental and hence the time taken is less. The advantage of vista is that complete recovery of PC can be initiated from the operating system itself.
Windows DVD maker is available as a new addition to vista. Mail system has been improved a lot for easy e-mail access. The control panel has also changed a lot that provides single window for all system settings. The automatic windows update has been simplified to a control panel and important software updates are done automatically.
The system performance is improved by caching commonly used programs and data. The vista operating system can make intelligent decisions regarding the data that should be present in the system memory using the usage patterns. The wireless networking support provided by vista eliminates the third party requirements for setting up a wireless network. Name anything you can do with a computer system and windows vista provides an easy way to do that operation.

Vista has certain drawbacks. The first amongst them being its slow speed. It requires more resources than the previous versions of Windows which were released by microsoft. Though it has encorporated many new features and provided many new facilities it still performs sluggishly. Some say the new sp1 of Vista is slower than the original release. There is some more work that Microsoft needs to do to enhance the workings of its new OS.

This is really interesting... is vista SP1 improving overall performance or not? Haven't chance to try yet.
