How to create and configure wireless network

How to create and configure wireless network

Hi, I would like to know if anybody could share exparence creating wireless networks. My friend live 500 metres away and we would like have our local network with internet sharing. what is the best way to do this? What shall we need?

Re: How to create and configure wireless network

Hi, stygius

I have made wireless network between two point 450 metres away. I should say that stable system requires some costs. I found that Buffalo AirStations are very stable and usefull for me so I bought two Buffalo WHR-HP-G54-2 AirStations. Of course, i needed external antennas original buffalo antenas are too weak. firstly I tryed to construct some Wifi hacked antennas (YAGI, Helix) but they didn't work stable so I bought original 15dBi Mini-Reflector Wireless LAN Antenna. It works wery well.

Re: How to create and configure wireless network

Oh, it looks like you have all I need! Could you give me more details about it? How does it cost? What else I need ?

Re: How to create and configure wireless network

Firstly, I would like to know where you live? In a city or country? In the city there are a lot of electromagnetic noises. Are there any buildings or trees in the visibility between two point?

Re: How to create and configure wireless network

I live in the country and there is no interferences.

Re: How to create and configure wireless network

Samson, could you post more information about your constructed antennas? Picture(s) would be great. maybe there are plans available - can you share a link.
Thanks

Re: How to create and configure wireless network

Stygius, I made a list of necessary things:

1. Two Buffalo AirStations WHR-HP-G54

2. Two external 15dBi Mini-Reflector Wireless LAN Antennas (It is enough for this distance)

3. Some meters S240 cable of 50 Ohm (max 7metres on each point if you want not to lose connection. If you need longer range you should choose better cable)

S240

4. Two RSMA MALE pin connector RSMA-M-240 to solder on cable.

5. Two pin N-MALE connectors.

N-MALE

Most original antennas already have N-Male connector so you need N-FAMALE-N-FAMALE connector.

N-FAMALE-N-FAMALE

Re: How to create and configure wireless network

Samson, it looks clear but how about configuration, network speed, can you give me your wireless system scheme?

Re: How to create and configure wireless network

Hi, I made two helix antennas using instruction from http://helix.remco.tk

My results is shown below:

I made a scheme of my wireless system.

About configuration, if you don't want any additional settings just creat WDS bridge between routers, how to do this you can find on the link below: http://www.buffalotech.com/files/downloads/Configuring_...

If you would like to have some extra settings you should try dd-wrt software. More information you can find http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

If you have questions about DD-WRT soft, send me PM about it.

I tried both software on buffalo and found that original software is better for me.

My network between two access points runs steadly on 1000-1500kB/s speed and I have 7 computer on it. I can administrate airstations from evry computer on the network and I think it's nice one.
