Internet etiquette is a set of guidelines that are to be followed while using mailing list, chat and other internet forums. Internet is mainly used for communication and hence certain basic rules are to be followed so that others can understand what you are saying.

When you enter into the cyber space you must follow basic guidelines as you will have many people who are reading your words. You may be alone at your computer system but you will have real people reading your contents and if you make any abusive statement you are actually hurting your visitors.

Online business also requires personal conduct and you must be ethical when you attend forums and online discussions. This becomes highly important when you are doing online business communication or having an unofficial meeting with your client.

Internet forum is the main area which requires certain guidelines to be followed. Before joining the forum first learn the rules of posting. Then read what others have posted in the forum and get to know what the forum is meant for. Don't post irrelevant content in any forum. Without body language and facial expressions it is very difficult to emphasize your subtle emotions and for expressing them you can use the emotion icons. Spywares and viruses are great threats to computers and they are mostly transmitted to e-mails. If your computer contains spyware there is a high chance that they ill be transmitted to other persons when you send emails. Don't send attachments to unknown people. Don't open the attachments in the mails coming from unknown persons. This is very important as these attachments may contain viruses that harm your computer.

The main etiquette that is required to be followed while using the internet is sticking to the topic. You may use forums, blogs or emails but you must always talk about the topic that is stated by the headline. Surfing can be great and informative if every internet user follows the internet etiquette.
