Those are great resources. I am bit scary of having dual boot in one hdd as I had bad experience with Win2000 and Linux some time ago.
wow.. that's very well categorized and even explained very well... couldn't have expected more... Thanks a lot!!
Really good post.I was in search of the same thing since past one month and made it simple for me.
I wanted the information regarding the dual boot for XP and vista and I must say that that tutorial was very much user friendly and interactive.
I heard dual boot will crash some of the system files specially when we are using to different flatforms like windows and linux. is it true? If not i'm going to try xp and vista.
I hate dual boots especially when linux is mixed with windows. I rather use virtual machine for second OS - safe and clean. This way I can have several operating systems running simultaneously. Well you need fast enough PC and tons of RAM. But With 2GB of RAM I am able to run like 4 - 5 virtual machines with quite normal performance.
I suggest that if one uses Grub for windows..then there is no problem at all in using Dual boot... But care has to be taken that the you don't overwrite the MBR during Linux installation ....I am using it from the past 1 year ..
yeah... thank you very much :)
Help me very much it
thank for the resources.
but dual booting is not a good option.
as metion you need a lot of RAM for it or else battle with snail like processing.
Dual booting linux and windows is even worser
to windows is worse?
What is good for windows?
thanks for your information
Thanks a lot...but i honestly don't think I'll have to install either Linux or Vista anytime soon. Vista is just too new right now, and Linux is something i really dread! My dual boot with XP and Windows 98 serves me just fine :)
thanks abiji for the great links.
The tutorial for installing linux with XP is great! had been trying to get it done for over a month now, thanks for help!
The linux creates it's own format in partition which is unrecognizable by windows!
Using a dual-boot does not harm or slows your system in any way. Though the startup may be delayed a bit, but it's next to nothing!
Those links are just great. I dont suggest to use dual boot on personal computers. It becomes complicated and hard to manage and the fear of system crash is always there. I prefer to do that on servers, where i have multiple hard drives and it is much more robust and gives good performance
