Do you use OpenOffice instead of MS Office?
Openoffice really high level software package, which can do all tasks related to office works including writing documents, creating spreadsheets, preparing presentations, creating databases, etc. I see no significant difference from expensive MS Office package. So far all tasks can be done with Opensource. The only thing I have noticed is that it runs bit slower in older computers. I would say Home users do not need MS office for simple tasks like document writing. How about you - do you use OpenOffice or you prefer to stick with MS Office?

I do use OpenOffice at home, saves me buying a license for Microsoft Office itself. I also recommend it to customers who are a little concerned with the financial side of computing; newer users and the elderly especially.
All in all it's a great program, only around a 120mb download and well worth it considering the price and the extensive features. I think it could be one of the open source programs that makes average users finally consider open source software, the corporations don't need your money when there's a program that can do the same things for free.

no i use MS office only as my college provides MS Office installed in all computers so i really don't have a problem with it money wise(not having to shell a penny myself :P)
I use Open office on my home PC.It is very cool application and does lots of difficult jobs very quickly. It is also a cost efficient for those who can't pay lots of $$ on the software.
I use MS office2007 on my laptop. The newer version from Microsoft is also delightful. It is difficult to use when switch from MS office 2003 to MS office 2007 but when you get used to it then it is just as simple as you can think!
I Have never tried open office before. my computer came with the original OS so Office too. and i feel so comfortable working on MS office. i think its the best too.
As long as it doesn't cost you money. And if program you paid for don't earn back your money - then it is a wasting of cash. Now OpenOffice is really professional software and I find it even better than MS Office in some places.
I used them both and I must say Open Office is relly cool as a open source. Now MS packages have to be expensive, and so is MS Office. Sicne I got this with my notebook from my office, I don't need to think about the price, but as for personal use I would say it would be Open Office.

I think MS Office is well worth the price you pay. It's knowing how to use the different programs to their full potential that can really help you see that. Also, it's better for getting to know the programs as you'll be using them in a work environment all the time.
I have used Open Office for years now. Truthfully I think it does just as good as job as MS Office. Personally..I try to avoid most Microsoft products..dont ask me why...I just do...something about price..bugs..and support..but thats another thread. I have both these softwares on my machine....and I dont think Ive ever opened MS Office.
Just my 2 cents
