IPv6 should soon become a standard i think. With many more users being added to the internet everyday its only a matter of time that Internet Service Providers run out of ips to allocate to all their users who would be surfing at any given time. Most of the ISPs use a dynamic ip which is assigned to the user when he logs onto the internet. Dynamic ips cut down on the number of ips the ISP has to allocate to its users as it only has to allocate an IP to a user who is online and can save on those who are offline. Many operating systems like Vista have native support for ipv6. The discussion here is not whether it will become a standard, the discussion is how soon. I would say by march 2010 it would be mandatory for all isps to allocate ipv6 ips to their users.
