Installed IE7 now can't access the internet

Recently installed IE7 (windows xp) but now I can't seem to get on to the internet without not selecting add-ons. This now means that where I had things like yahoo, google etc. on the tool bar has now gone. Would I have to go back to IE6 to get the toolbar up and working again or, is there another way round this using IE7. Thanks
