Windows 7 – Something New!!

Officially slated to be released in January 2010, Microsoft developers could get a first glimpse of newest operating system Windows 7 at the Microsoft's PDC conference held on 28th October 2008 in Los Angeles. With various new features like an improved application oriented task bar, live services, geo tracking etc Bill Gates Windows 7 is "more users centric" Some of the most impressive features in Windows 7 are :-

  • Updated Windows Task bar

The Quick Launch features have now been integrated in the new task bar allowing the users easy access to commonly used application. The taskbar can be customized and new application can be added or rearranged using a simple drag & drop. Preview Pane introduced in Windows Vista has been enhanced with now user being able to see what is happening live in each application by placing the mouse on the applications thumbnail. Basic features of all the applications have been integrated in preview panel making it more users friendly. For example you can play stop or pause any song through preview pane without actually launching the Media player.

  • Jump Lists

By right clicking on any of the application icon you can get a listing of most recent files opened or common tasks which are performed using a particular windows application. For example you can view the recent documents which has been created, viewed or altered just by right clicking on the MS word icon.

  • Lesser Pop Ups

The new version of Windows 7 also provides the much needed relief from the annoying pop ups with now notifications sent only for important issues like disabled firewall protection.

  • Other interesting features include unified search for lightening fast listing of search result with most used application listed at the top. Device Stage a single point interface to view all the hardware and gadgets plugged into your system, like digital camera, USB drive etc. You can even find the details about the battery charge and the amount of storage space left on the device from the same window.
  • Easy Networking

Different PC's loaded with Windows 7 when place on a single network are able auto connect and form a home group. The users of different PC's can easily share the data as if they are all sharing the same hard drive. Location Aware Printing makes your system detect the closest printer without performing any actual configuration.

Loaded with useful new features Windows 7 is bound to be computer users' delight but the most striking deal is the Instant On feature which claims to boot the Windows 7 OS in 15 seconds flat!!! Things surely can't get better then this.
