Beware: Lead Thief Used Google Maps to Spot Their Next Victim!
Google has already dominated the internet world with its incredible and outstanding multiple features. With Google Maps, you can find the place you want to go within few seconds.
Believe it or not, the Metropolitan Police of London has caught a famous shady roofer, Tom Berge. Do you know that over a period of 6 months, the 27-year-old Berge used the online satellite mapping (Google Maps) service to look for lead roofs near his London home? He can quickly indentify the lead roof by its color!
Berge had already made off with an estimated of £100,000 worth of the valuable building material by the time he being arrested by police.
According to a spokesoman for the Met, the properties hit included Sutton High School for Girls and the Honeywood (Not Hollywood) Museum, Carshalton. It estimated that a total of £10,000-worth of lead was removed from the roof of each building!
The more sarcastic thing here is Berge only used ladders and abseiling ropes to strip the lead and load it all into his getaway vehicle. The process will take less than 15 minutes and it's terribly a piece of cake for Berge!
Therefore, you should watch out for your lead roof all the time, if you don't want to be the next victim of this bizarre stolen. [source]
