Benefits of Windows Vista over Windows Xp

There was too much hype when Microsoft was going to release Windows Vista, its latest operating system. And Microsoft lived up to all the expectations of its die-hard fans. Though many people swear by Windows Xp, which is a world class OS too, Windows Vista is its worthy successor. Vista has many unique features which Xp lacks, like a good interface, improved security and a better user experience. Here are the benefits of Windows Vista over Windows Xp:

  • Windows Firewall: Vista contains two different Firewalls: one is the standard one that is found in Windows Xp and the other one is a more advanced Firewall offering effective firewall protection like bidirectional filters. These filters scan both the incoming and outgoing files.
  • Parental Controls: windows Vista includes advanced parental control features where parents can regulate the sites which their child can view or not. It helps them to act like an administrator and restrict other users. They can also define the duration a particular user can use the PC and what application he/she can access. They can also monitor other activities of the users.
  • Other Security Features: there are many other security features like the BitLocker Drive Encryption, the latest version of Windows Defender and a powerful User Account Control (UAC) which lets you have complete access to all the things.
  • Attractive Interface: the most striking difference between Vista and Xp is their interface. The interface of Vista is far more attractive and eye-catching. If you install Widows Aero, which requires a high-end graphic card, then you get a transparent, cleaner and impressive interface plus Live Icons and the latest Windows Flip 3D feature. Even without the Windows Aero the interface is far better than that of Xp. The sidebar is another notable feature in Vista displaying Windows Gadgets like a clock, a calendar, a currency exchange and an MS Office inbox representation. These gadgets are of great use.
  • Windows Media Player 11: this is the latest version of the Windows Media Players. Microsoft has made considerable improvements in WMP 11 and it looks very attractive. Media Player 11 is more graphically advanced and it also allows sharing of media over your own private network.
  • Windows Search: the Windows Search facility allows you to search any application, file or a folder from anywhere. All you have to do is to type your search query and you will get the results. This search facility is a lot better and easy to use.

With so many advantages of Vista compared to Xp, I cant see any reason why one would not migrate to it. With tons of useful features it is really a top-class operating system. Hats off to Microsoft for creating Windows Vista.
