Article: How to open favorite website from Start menu in Windows Vista

Windows Vista is full of nice features that can’t be found on earlier Windows versions. One of them enablers opening your favorite websites directly from start menu. But forst of all there is a little tweaking needed.

Probably you have tried searching functionality from Start menu. Once you type a keyword Vista offers two choices: "Search Everywhere" and "Search the Internet". So wee need to add one more choice which allows us to browse by name. For instance you type in DiBugs, Gmail and you are directed to corresponding sites.

Let’s do this.

  • In Start menu Run box type gpedit.msc to open Group policy editor. Navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Instant Search -> Custom Instant Search Internet Search provider.
