In Vista there are two types of wireless networks namely the public and private network. Public networks are less secure, so the OS disables discovery of other devices when connected to one. But by default, Vista makes your network public. So to enhance security and speed it is advisable to change to private by enabling a much more comprehensive view of the network behind your router using a new protocol called Link Layer Topology Discovery. Here is how to do it.
Step 1: Go to Start > Network and Sharing Center.
Step 2: Click Customize under the picture of your network at top.
Step 3: Switch to Private and click Next.
Step 4: Optimizing things according to your own choice and also note the numerour sharing options listed. You can even give your PC access to your printer from here.
