For many years the conventional desktop computer has dominated the computer market. It is found in majority of homes around the whole world. But now it has a formidable competitor. It is the Macintosh, a product of Apple Inc. The Macintosh, or Mac, has been around for many years but it was not very popular with the general public. Then a boom called iPod happened. This lifted the dying Apple Inc., and in turn it’s Macintosh computers. The Mac is now better in many ways than its older versions and it is getting hot favorite amongst the public. If you are in a doubt about purchasing a computer then I would recommend you to go with a Mac. It is a lot better than a PC in many ways. The following reasons will make my point clear.
- Most of the PC’s run on Windows. And the Windows are known for taking too much disk space and the memory of your computer. This is not the case with a Mac. It takes less space and thus is faster than your conventional PC.
- Computer viruses are the worst enemies of any computer. But the Apple Mac is less susceptible to virus attack than a PC. The Mac is powered by a Unix based operating system which is more effective in resisting viruses and spywares. This does not mean that viruses can’t affect a Mac, but still the chance of a Mac getting affected by virus is very less as compared to a PC.
- Application installation in a PC is a very tedious process. First you have to put the CD/DVD in the drive, then click on few buttons after which the installation process starts. This takes a hell lot of time. But with Mac, you will have no problems in installing any software. All you have to do is drag and drop the file that you have to install in any folder. Easy, isn’t it?
- If you are in Graphics and Designing then Mac is certainly for you. Since it faster and robust than a PC, it is bound to give you a better performance for your design purposes.
- Mac now comes with a revolutionizing program suite called iLife. This software enables you to make top quality videos, audios etc. Though Windows is equipped with a similar program called Windows Movie Maker, but its quality is inferior as compared to that of a Mac.
- Lastly, I want to say that the design of a Mac is the best. It can’t be beaten. Apple has this knack of making gorgeous gadgets and Mac is the best example. If you are looking for a visually pleasing computer then the best option will be a Mac.
These above points were just a snapshot. Mac beats the PC in many ways but everything is not perfect. In some cases a PC performs better than a Mac but this doesn’t mean that Mac is not good. It is better than a PC. That’s the bottomline.

I don’t completely agree when you say that Mac is better than a PC. The main advantage that a PC enjoys over a Mac is the fact that it is more commonly used and you will not have a problem finding parts and upgradation.
At the same time, the no. of programs that come out for Mac are very limited as compared to OSs like MS and Linux.
Thirdly, the Mac ,IMHO, is always overpriced compared to a PC with similar features.

I have never tried mac normally – only once had a chance to browse internet with it. But I don’t know does performance differ from PC? Especially now when Intel processors are used. I am willing to think that using a MAC is a matter of some kind of fassion. If I had to chose MAC – I’d rather go with Linux
