Article: How to speed up copying large files over the Network in Vista

I don’t know if any of you have noticed this but the speed at which large files like movies, games, etc. are copied over the network in Vista seems to be slower than the speed in XP. Well this is due to Vista’s "Autp Tuning" smart feature which reacts to changes in network by tuning the packet receive size. This "smart" feature sometimes seems to slow down data transfer speeds for some odd reason. As there is no way to tinker around with its settings the only obvious solution is to disable it. Here is how to do it.

Step 1: Click on Start button, type in "cmd"in the "Start Search" .

Step 2: Right Click "cmd.exe" , select "Run as Administrator".

Step 3: Once command prompt is open type the following: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Thats it. The zombie has been disabled. If in case you need to turn it on again then use netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal. You should get a confirmation.
