Internet is continually evolving at a very high rate and this has created requirement of advanced IP solutions to meet the burgeoning demand and also to handle growth successfully. The IPv6, which is the short form of Internet Protocol version 6 has been designed to meet the swift growth of internet. The new version will soon replace the IPv4 (version 4) which is in wide use and that has already turned obsolete.
A larger address space and stateless auto configuration are the two primary benefits of IPv6. Apart from this there are some other benefits like security which is defined natively in protocol, optimized IP mobility, simple and easy plug and play due to stateless auto configuration. The internet protocol and data protocol is widely used across network for the purposes of communication across network. The protocol standard connects two points on network. There are also set of rules and guidelines governing aspects of communication across network. IP is also known for network layer protocol. It is governed and housed in Ethernet, a data linkage. Ethernet is an association of computer technologies and properties which are used across LANs. A unique internet protocol address is provided by Ethernet for all users on networks. IP is a good tool for communication and to identify global address of particular network or a computer. IP is concerned with ending up of data and concerned with actual next device in chain of communication.
In the recent years the concept of network security is being expanded. Network security is important for understanding relation with IPv6. Usually concept of security is focused on authentication, data privacy and data security. Recently the concept of network security is gaining importance. While building networks, single failure points should be avoided to make them reliable. As a result there has been an expansion of network security enabling internet to resist physical attacks or natural disasters. IPv6 has proved beneficial as it allows emergency response network deployment. Apart from this, robust networks are also allowed by IPv6. The IPsec (short form of Internet Protocol security) provides best support for user authentication, data integrity and data encryption.
IPv4 was IP’s first version which was widely deployed worldwide, as IP’s fourth edition. It is used along with IPv6. IPv4 and IPv6 are forms of IP used extensively in the World Wide Web. IPv4 is also popularly called as best effort delivery. IPv4 does not have many service guarantees. It contains notions without guaranteeing quality for customers or reliability for connectivity to network. This can best be compared to post office where resources are used in delivering mail without actualized guarantee on mail. Though Internet Protocol looks as a very complex concept, it offers guidelines for transmitting voice or data over IP services through network. Computers within network having IP address enable reception of data. With the IP address, there is an assurance of proper receipt of data.

IPv6 should soon become a standard i think. With many more users being added to the internet everyday its only a matter of time that Internet Service Providers run out of ips to allocate to all their users who would be surfing at any given time. Most of the ISPs use a dynamic ip which is assigned to the user when he logs onto the internet. Dynamic ips cut down on the number of ips the ISP has to allocate to its users as it only has to allocate an IP to a user who is online and can save on those who are offline. Many operating systems like Vista have native support for ipv6. The discussion here is not whether it will become a standard, the discussion is how soon. I would say by march 2010 it would be mandatory for all isps to allocate ipv6 ips to their users.
