Step1: Avoiding the Software Conflicts

If you’re upgrading the computer running the Windows AntiSpyware Beta1 or the Windows XP, you might see the software conflicts with the Windows Defender while you upgrade to the Windows Vista. To prevent this, uninstall the Windows AntiSpyware Beta 1 before beginning the upgrade process described here.

Steps for Upgrading to the Windows Vista

i. Hardware requirements for the Windows Vista might change before the official release. The current requirements could provide you a guideline:

ii. A computer with the modern CPU as specified in the PC guidelines for the hardware that is capable of windows Vista.

iii. 512 MB of RAM or higher is recommended

iv. A 9-class DirectX graphics adapter which supports Pixel Shader 2.0 and WDDM, capable of assisting the WDDm drivers used in the Windows Vista.

v. DVD drive

Step 2: Backup the Important Data

i. You should consider backing up or save the files to some safe location, before you upgrade to the Windows Vista. Of course, this step isn’t mandatory; it is good to keep a backup of the important data before you make the changes to your computer to avoid the data loss.

ii. To save the important data to some safe location, the options might depend on the backup options and the genuine operating system available to you. The list here under might provide some suggestions:

iii. Windows Backup, or certain other software for backup

iv. Copy the data to the network folder

v. Copy the data to a DVD or CD

Step 3: Up gradation to the Windows Vista

The procedure for upgrading to the Windows Vista thinks that you already are running the previous Windows version on the computer. Upgrades are only supported for the Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista versions

1. Start the setup of the Windows Vista by inserting the CD or DVD while running the Windows and click on the "Install Now" button. If in case the autorun program doesn’t open the installation screen, direct the path to the root folder of DVD and double click on the setup.exe

2. Click on the "Next" button to begin the setup.

3. Click on "Go Online to get the updates" button to get the vital updates for the windows Vista. This step is an optional step. If not, click on the other button.

4. In the Product Key field, key I the product ID that is available on the back of the DVD case and click "Next" to go further.

5. Read the License Terms and accept them and click Next. Clicking on the "I decline" button exits the setup process.

6. Click on the upgrade button to perform the upgradation to the existing Windows installation.

7. The setup continues without any further interaction.

Note:

To perform the procedure, you should be the member of Administrators group on your local computer, or you should have been the appropriate authority. If the computer is a member of a domain, the members of that Domain group of Admins might be capable of performing this procedure.
